Ensafe Supporting the Regeneration of Northampton with the Safe Removal of Asbestos

One year on from the first lockdown in the UK, we are reflecting on some of the amazing work we have been involved in.  Of course this has been a difficult year for businesses and for town centres.  We are so proud to say that we have been playing our part in the development and regeneration of Northampton, including supporting the safe removal of asbestos from the former M&S site on Abington Street, with the support of Gallagher’s.

Ensafe was also chosen to be part of Gallagher’s UK-wide initiative, ‘Tackling Tomorrow. Together.’.  The businesses were chosen for this initiative based on the resilience shown during the COVID-19 pandemic.  We have continued to operate during the pandemic to support our clients and ensure the safety of essential services and construction sites during lockdowns.
We ensured that while many of our staff were placed on furlough, their salaries were topped up to 100%, which impacted the business financially in the short term.  To support this, Gallagher provided advice on risk management and insurance protection, as well as partnering Ensafe with their local Gallagher’s Premiership rugby clubs, Northampton Saints and Leicester Tigers.  This allowed advertising our asbestos services, health & safety and environmental services and compliance training, to a new audience within the local community.

With our support from Gallagher’s throughout the pandemic we have been able to assist the safe removal of asbestos from the former M&S site in Northampton, to help with the regeneration of the area. The building was purchased in September 2020, by Northampton Borough Council as part of the plan to develop the town centre.  The building has been empty since 2018 and a tender was prepared by Ensafe, alongside the Council and C2S Chartered Surveyors, for asbestos removal.  We have also been undertaking the air monitoring and auditing of the works for this project.

We look forward to seeing the continued development of the area and we are proud of the role we have played, even during such a challenging time.  This was possible with our involvement in the “Tackling Tomorrow. Together.” project as well as the hard work and reliance of our staff and the company as a whole.
